Legoland Discovery Center Philadelphia

Earlier this spring Legoland Discovery Center opened at the Plymouth Meeting Mall.  Recently my family and I were invited to check out this new addition to the area.

Before you go
To save some money and to skip the lines you should order your tickets before you leave home at Legoland Discovery Center. If you purchase tickets at home you will guarantee  Legoland is open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you want to purchase your tickets when you arrive at Legoland you can do that too.  Legoland is located in the Plymouth Meeting Mall and it's very easy to get to via 476 or 76. Allow yourself 2 to 3 hours to experience everything at Legoland.

What to check out
  • LEGO® NINJAGO Training Camp: Train through interactive build challenge activities to improve your flexibility, agility, ingenuity and LEGO brick building skills to help protect NINJAGO from its marauding enemies. Complete your training in the NINJAGO Laser Maze.
  • Pirate Adventure Island: Go on a swashbuckling quest in the soft play area aboard an LEGO-themed pirate ship. Adventure through whimsical scenarios as you climb the rigging, walk the plank, capture the flag or escape down the slide to make it ashore to the island’s castle.
  • LEGO® Friends: Tell a story with Andrea, Mia, Olivia, Stephanie and Emma as you add your own creations to the colorful LEGO® Heartlake City.
  • Earthquake Tables: Visitors can build their own LEGO skyscrapers and see if their creations can survive the shaking earthquake-stimulating tables.
  • DUPLO® Park: Little builders can let their imaginations loose in our DUPLO® Park. Build a colorful DUPLO flower for the farmer's garden, climb up a small hill and slide down the other side or play on our special big soft bricks.
  • MINILAND®: See iconic Philadelphia landmarks recreated from nearly 1.5 million LEGO bricks.
  • Imagination Express: An interactive LEGO ride that takes visitors on an adventure that starts at Brick Station and goes from a soapy bath all the way to outer space.
  • LEGO 4D Cinema: Guests will be on the edge of their seats as an incredible action adventure unfolds in 3-D before their very eyes. The film comes to life in the fourth dimension as flurries of wind, rain, lightning and even snow burst into the auditorium!
  • LEGO Racers - Build & Test: Let your imagination take over as you build your vehicle and take it to the ramps. Test your car and see how you can make it go faster! What We Love
We fell in love with the miniland of Philadelphia.  We could have spent hours finding all of the iconic Philadelphia buildings.  My husband got a kick out of finding the building he works in made out of Legos.
As a mom of daughters, I loved the section of the discovery center that had Lego Friends since they are a favorite in our house.
I also liked how they had something for everyone to keep families happy and busy while visiting and exploring Legoland Discovery Center.

Five Reasons Your Family Will Love THE STINKY CHEESE MAN and other fairly stupid tales at the Arden Theatre

Last weekend I had the chance to see the latest children's show at the Arden Theatre called The Stinky Cheese Man & other fairly stupid tales.  As a teacher and a mom I was familiar with the story and knew that it would bring a lot of laughs.  I loved that the show made sure the adults were entertained too with jokes and even a little Beyonce.  The show appeals to your whole family no matter how old they are.  Below are 5 reasons your family will love The Stinky Cheese Man and other fairly stupid tales

1. Arden Children’s Theatre is top-notch. They’ve been doing shows for kids for 16 years and put the same resources into their Children’s Series Shows – professional actors, designers, sets, etc. – that they do for their Mainstage shows. And this one’s a musical…added bonus!

2. The Stinky Cheese Man takes classic stories that all children know and mixes them up in wacky ways. Your kids will get that the stories are all parodies of the original (even though the main character doesn’t,) and they’ll love being in on the joke.

3.Your kids won’t know that they are learning…but they are! Live theatre enhances literary knowledge (this one is based on a book) and increases tolerance and empathy. What parent doesn’t want that?

4.Post show Q&A and meet & greets with the cast give kids the chance to ask questions like, “Was that really supposed to happen?”, “Is your tail real?” and “How much do you make?”

5. Belly Laughs. Lots of them. Probably centered around a giant cow patty. And really, is there any better sound than hearing your kids belly laugh?

Arden Children’s Theatre presents
Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates

November 24, 2015 – January 31, 2016

Arden Theatre Company presents the World Premiere of HANS BRINKER AND THE SILVER SKATES by playwright, director and screenwriter Laura Eason and adapted from the novel by Mary Mapes Dodge. The first of two Children’s Theatre offerings during the 2015/16 Season, HANS BRINKER AND THE SILVER SKATES runs from November 24, 2015 – January 31, 2016, on the Arden’s F. Otto Haas stage at 40 N. 2nd Street in Philadelphia.

About the Show

My family and I had the chance to review the show this past weekend and as usual, the Arden Theatre doesn't disappoint.  We loved how the set design was done with making the stage look like an ice rink and the way they told the story. My kids loved how it looked like the cast was skating on real ice.   We also loved the lesson the show told about never giving up and being kind to others. Here is some background of the the story:

A great skating contest is announced, and the winner will receive a shiny pair of silver skates. But will Hans Brinker and his sister Gretel, with their hand-carved wooden skates, be able to compete against children who own fine steel blades? Set against a backdrop of frozen canals in 19th century Holland, this new production celebrates the importance of grit and determination, the value of generosity, and the thrill of flying down the ice on a pair of skates.

Another favorite activity at the Arden is after the show the audience can ask questions to the actors.  This helps everyone to learn more about the show and it helps kids to connect with the actors.  Also, you can meet the actors and pose for pictures with them in the lobby after the show.
